National Weather Service Tulsa OK
241 PM CDT Tue May 20 2025
...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM...
.KEY MESSAGES...
Issued at 232 PM CDT Sun May 17 2025
- Cooler and dry weather tonight and tomorrow.
- Low chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night and
Thursday. Limited threat of severe weather.
- Higher rain and storm chances by the end of the week and over
the weekend. Increasing potential for heavy rainfall and
severe weather.
&&
.SHORT TERM...
(Through tonight)
Issued at 232 PM CDT Tue May 20 2025
The much needed break from the active weather will persist
tonight with high pressure building across the region. Clear skies
and very light/ calm winds will allow for a cool night with lows
in the lower to mid 50s. Some of the typically colder spots in far
northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas may even briefly fall
into the upper 40s.
&&
.LONG TERM...
(Tomorrow through Tuesday)
Issued at 232 PM CDT Tue May 20 2025
South flow returns to our area tomorrow afternoon as a shortwave
an associated sfc low track into western Oklahoma. At the same
time, a wave crossing the central plains will nudge a frontal
boundary south into northern portions of the FA. This may allow
for scattered shower/ storm development by tomorrow evening/
overnight mainly in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.
Additional showers and thunderstorms are possible along and south
of I-40 Thursday as the front sags into southeast Oklahoma. A
storm or two Wednesday night and Thursday may produce marginally
severe hail or wind gusts, but widespread and organized severe
weather is unlikely.
The pattern remains active into the end of the week and
especially over the holiday weekend. Lee troughing develops by
Friday with WAA/ isentropic ascent increasing across the southern
Plains under WNW flow aloft. This pattern will provide repeated
rain and thunder chances to much of the CWA through the weekend
until the next storm system and associated frontal boundary
finally ejects into the plains early next week. Similar to the
past few days, PWATs will be near or above the 90th percentile for
this time of year and heavy rainfall will likely be a concern
Friday through Sunday. The heaviest rainfall and highest flooding
concerns are currently forecast over northeast Oklahoma and
northwest Arkansas. Additionally, at least some severe potential
appears probable, albeit likely not as widespread or intense as
earlier this week. Temperatures will generally remain near
seasonal averages through the extended period with highs in the
70s and 80s and lows generally in the 50s and 60s. Winds will be
periodically breezy, but gusts should generally remain below 25
mph through the forecast period. Please monitor the forecast over
the coming days and be especially mindful of expected weather when
considering any weekend plans.

.AVIATION...
(18Z TAFS)
Issued at 1222 PM CDT Tue May 20 2025
Corridor of eroding low clouds remains across western AR with any
temporary ceilings expected to remain VFR through mid afternoon.
Otherwise gusty winds this afternoon will decrease around sunset.
While patchy fog is possible overnight, the location and duration
of any significantly reduced visibilities currently appears too
limited to warrant mention at this time.
